Scope and Contents

This collection consists of papers and materials related to CPS Camp no. 56 in Waldport, Oregon. It includes books featuring CPS members, Glen Coffield, William Everson, Kermit Sheets, Martin Ponch and Adrian Wilson. The collection also includes Dupre’s correspondence with his parents during and his stay at Waldport. It contains correspondence, papers and reviews on Steve McQuiddy’s “Here on the Edge”. It also contains approximately 40 photographs from camp no. 56 and publications such as ‘The Compass’, ‘Theatre Annual’ and newspaper articles on CPS. The collection also contains miscellaneous research material on Waldport and COs and maps of places in oregon, including Waldport.

Biographical / Historical

Vladimir Dupre, (1920- ) is pacifist from the Presbyterian church. Dupre who is originally from Lexington, Kentucky graduated from Oberlin College, Ohio with MA in Psychology. He met his wife Elizabeth Dupre (Ibby) at the college. He transferred from CPS Camp no. 121 at Bedford, Virginia to Camp no. 56 in Waldport, Oregon. Although, he was not an artist himself, he was an important member of the Fine Arts Group at Waldport. He served as Executive Secretary of the Fine Arts at Waldport. He worked closely with the Fine Arts at Waldport members including William Everson, William Eshelman, Kermit Sheets, Adrian Wilson, Kemper Nomland and Glen Coffield. His then fiance, Ibby Dupre joined the theatre group as an actress and was the main reason for his transfer to Waldport. After his release from Waldport, he worked as psychology professor at Grinnell College and the University of Kansas. He served as president of the National Training Laboratories in Washington, D.C., and ran a private psychotherapy practice.
