Historical Note
M. O. Skarsten was professor emeritus at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon when he wrote George Drouillard: Hunter and Interpreter for Lewis and Clark. The book is the standard biography of Drouillard, a hunter and interpreter, who played a primary role in the success of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Following the Expedition, Drouillard became a partner in the fur trade with Manuel Lisa. Drouillard was killed in 1810 while trapping on the upper Missouri River.
